PC Woes
darnit... laptop failed... so... well.. huh....
I got this error, Unmountable boot disk...
right before that error I heard about 10 real heavy clicks... So I'm guessing my Hard Drive is shot..
I went to the Best Buy: Geek Squad.. I was disappointed to see that they don't really carry badges, but they do refer to themselves as agents and double agents.. so thats pretty cool :)
They are gonna charge me $89 for the first 4.75 gig worth of data retrieved from the HD, and put it onto a DVD Drive... every additional 4.75 gig of data will be $50
I've got so much um... porn on there... and pictures... art that I've drawn and colored, flash animations I created.. music I created... and pictures of friends... just alot of stuff I don't want to loose

I'm pretty confident in thinking that I can put an HardDrive and a Operating System in the laptop myself, and that I can clear my drive of spyware, so that will save me about $300 in costs that they were giving me the run down on. meh I say!

but I've been having such a crappy week since monday, I really find myself unphased by the laptop crash

Collge Degree x 2
Found out I have 5 classes left till graduation! :)
Math, Speech, 2 Language, + Science = lib arts degree

and 4 more computer classes = Computer Sci Associates degree...

So, I'm thinking of getting both :) once I pass my Math and Speech classes, I'm gonna double up a bit to get it all done with :) take a winter course.. and a summer... and finish up! weee :)

Try this neat little trick for data recovery with a "dead" or dying hard drive. Remove the drive, put it in an AIR TIGHT ziplock baggie. Put the baggie in the freezer for about 3 hours.. remove it, and immediately put the drive back in the laptop, quickly. Send the data to a network drive or somewhere, fast.. with all luck, you'll recover it for free. Hell, I can do it for you, if you want.. or at least, try.

really?? oh wow... I'm going to have to try this..
are you coming to the beach or after party this weekend? I can bring them there and try to transfer files to my computer at Sox's place..
Can you leave the drive in there for longer then 3hrs?

I wouldn't leave the drive in the freezer for *too* long, you don't want condensation to build and then freeze too much. Speaking of which, put the drive in a freezer bag, and use a straw to suck the air out before sealing it, that'll help.

If it does get back up and running from this trick, you won't have long to copy things over. It'd be best if you could actually put it in your desktop to copy things back, but that takes an adapter that I don't think I can get, not for free anyway, and I really don't know who locally sells them.

I ran into similar PC problems once and lost all my data so now I've gotten rather religious about doing periodic backups to DVD. It's a load off my mind.

I really should have done back ups... I do it all the time at my job, and never for my own data :/
